Overview
In FY 1999, the Department of State (DoS) approved a leading initiative of the Federal government to offer recruitment and retention incentives for its Information Technology (IT) workers. With proof of specific certifications and evidence of other computer training in high demand for the foreign affairs mission, DoS computer specialists and its new recruits became eligible for retention and recruitment bonuses. Since that time, the DoS program has been highly successful in meeting its mission objectives that call for the support of a technical professional work force, with more than half of its IT personnel now participating.
