As part of its broader effort to promote social inclusion for marginalized youth, USAID provided assistance to Student UNTZ, the University of Tuzla’s Women’s Volleyball Club, which trains young women and girls, including Roma and other socially excluded youth, in volleyball sports. Through its Marginalized Populations Support Program, USAID provided team t-shirts, trainers, tracksuits, volleyballs and other sports equipment.
More than 60 girls of different social backgrounds train at this diverse club. In leading by example, the club highlights the importance of inclusion in sports activities for all girls, and helps them and all involved – extended family, friends, teachers and others in the community – to overcome prejudices and negative attitudes towards Roma people and other disadvantaged groups, to be on the same winning team.
