The Energy for Peace Activity supports the planning, building, operation, and transfer of sustainable solar energy projects, or mini solar energy grids, in conflict-affected communities. This activity is implemented through USAID’s INVEST mechanism and it runs from June 2020- June 2025.
Conservation and Governance seeks to reduce deforestation in the Amazon and create environmentally sustainable, legal economic opportunities. The activity incentivizes biodiversity conservation by supporting market-based value chains and by encouraging public and private sector investment in these areas. The activity also protects existing forests, rehabilitates degraded land, and constructs ecological corridors that connect smaller patches of forests to one another. Conservation and Governance runs from July 2013 - December 2020.
Artisanal Gold Mining promotes responsible mining, alternative livelihoods, and environmental rehabilitation in the departments of Antioquia and Choco. It legalizes and formalizes illegal and informal gold mines, discourages mercury use in mining, creates legal economic opportunities and reforests land degraded by mining. Artisanal Gold Mining runs from September 2015 – March 2021.
The Colombia Forests and Wetlands Activity helps transfer forest and natural resources management expertise from the United States Forest Service (USFS) to local government and community actors. The activity also provides technical assistance to local actors in the areas of public forest governance, wildfire management and carbon monitoring. This activity runs from June 2020-June 2023.
The Territories of Life Activity strengthens the capacity of indigenous organizations and traditional authorities in the Amazon Basin to govern their territories. The activity provides technical assistance to five indigenous community organizations to establish and manage Indigenous Community Conservation Areas (ICCAs). This activity runs from April 2020-March 2023.
