The Connect for Peace (C4P) Activity is a 36-month initiative to support peace efforts in Liberia, particularly in Nimba County and Monrovia. C4P activities target 230 men, women, and youth across Nimba County and at least 50,000 residents of selected electoral districts in greater Monrovia. As revealed by the project’s conflict analysis, Liberians have never experienced the benefits of a healthy social contract between citizens and the state. Land disputes, ethnic rivalries and clashes, and limited state capacity for peaceful resolution of disputes explain Liberia’s propensity for conflict. For positive peace to take root and prevail, Liberians must find ways to reconcile, overcome mutual mistrust, and live in harmony.
The Liberia Accountability and Voice Initiative (LAVI) is designed to strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships to advocate for and monitor policy and accountability reforms. LAVI focuses on developing a portfolio of initiatives with the potential for cumulative impact around issues that have the greatest potential for positive change and are responsive to locally defined priorities. In particular, LAVI works to:
USAID Digital Liberia e-Gov Activity aims to improve government’s performance and bring government closer to citizens by assisting it to develop its internet and computer technology capability. It will do this by providing technical assistance to help improve the connectivity and institutional capacity necessary to provide effective services.
The Revenue Generation for Governance and Growth (RG3) Activity is designed to build the capacity of targeted Government of Liberia (GOL) institutions, particularly the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), to improve domestic revenue mobilization in Liberia. RG3 supports the MFDP to develop the capacity to formulate sound, predictable, and fair revenue policies. It also supports the LRA to enhance its ability to effectively, efficiently, and transparently implement those policies and carry out its revenue collection mandate
USAID’s Forest Incomes for Environmental Sustainability (FIFES) Activity works to combats deforestation and biodiversity loss while developing rural, forest-based enterprises that provide sustainable economic opportunities for farmers and forest-dependent communities. The Activity contributes to USAID/Liberia’s overall sustainable economic growth program to promote equitable and sustainable market-led economic opportunities while improving natural resources management.
