With just about a year from its launch, USAID’s Improving Deaf Children’s Reading through Technology program (IDCRT) is already making a great impact on both teachers and students through its newly-designed literacy software. To catalyze on this positive momentum, the program formed a Steering Committee composed of partner associations representatives  to raise awareness for special education needs for deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children.

USAID/Morocco Mission Director Dana Mansuri joined UIR President Noureddine Mouaddib and NDI Morocco Director Slobodan Milic in signing a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines the participation of UIR in an USAID’s “Ajiw Tcharko” extracurricular program focusing on civic and political education. As part of her opening remarks, Dana Mansuri sparked a conversation by saying, "Over 200 years ago, it was youth just like you who helped create democracy in the United States. I congratulate you for your interest in this program; it will help you understand what your government is doing and how you can engage with it to help change things for the better."

The woman-owned Al Ouaha cooperative produces date jelly in Morocco's Errachidia province but the arid region faces challenges such as plant diseases, lack of water, and poverty. With USAID assistance, the cooperative has expanded sales and employees, and has added new products such as medicinal plants and olive oil.

USAID Morocco opened its first vocational training Career Center in Casablanca on December 27th, 2016. The center was inaugurated by the Ambassador of the United States in Morocco, Dwight L. Bush Sr and the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, Rachid Benmokhtar Benabdellah, as well as the Director of the Office of Vocational Training and Employment Promotion (OFPPT), Larbi Bencheikh. In attendance were the heads of training departments, officials from the General Confederation of Moroccan Companies (CGEM) and representatives of the Casablanca - Settat region.
