Despite being one of the poorest countries in the world, Nepal plays a critical role in regional stability and connectivity. USAID’s Reading for All Program is a three-year, $3.88 million activity that works to improve early grade reading outcomes among children with disabilities in grades 1 – 3. Implemented in 6,775 schools in the 16 National Early Grade Reading Program focus districts (Banke, Surkhet, Bhaktapur, Kaski, Dhankuta, Saptari, Parsa, Rupandehi, Manang, Mustang, Bardiya, Dang, Dolpa, Kailaki, Kanchanpur and Dadeldhura), the activity strengthens the Government of Nepal’s (GON’s) institutional capacity at the federal, provincial and local levels to implement its constitutional and policy commitments to disability inclusive education.
For over 60 years, USAID has partnered with the Government of Nepal (GON) to design and implement a variety of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) programs across the country. Under Nepal’s new federal structure, provincial and municipal level governments are now expected to lead local health programs. USAID introduced its Breakthrough ACTION Nepal Activity to identify and respond to SBCC gaps and opportunities in partnership with Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population
and local government entities.
