OVERVIEW

USAID’s Textbook Printing and Distribution Project supported Afghanistan’s Ministry of Education (MoE) to expand access to, and improve the quality of, basic education for school-aged children. Through this project, USAID partnered with the Afghan government to print and distribute 47.7 million ministry-approved textbooks in Pashto, Dari, and English.

ACTIVITIES

  • Provided direct funding to the ministry to print and distribute mathematics, science, art, life skills, handwriting, geography, and history textbooks in Dari, Pashto, and English languages for primary and lower secondary levels
  • Supported the ministry in establishing a mechanism to manage and monitor textbook procurement needs and distribution

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • The project printed and distributed 47.7 million textbooks to grades 1-6 students in all 34 Afghan provinces.
