USAID/Albania Country Representative, Dr. Catherine Johnson, delivered remarks at a public consultation organized by Council of Europe (CoE) and National Democratic Institute (NDI), with financial support of European Union and British Embassy, on a new campaign finance reporting template and guidance for political parties. Adoption of the template would help Central Election Commission (CEC), civil society and media watchdogs to hold politicians accountable for the funds they raise and spend during the electoral campaign. The workshop provided a venue for political parties, civil society watchdogs, international organizations, CEC, the Institute of Authorized Chartered Auditors and legal experts to exchange views. Several civil society organizations including Mjaft!, Albanian Institute of Science (AIS) and Coalition of Domestic Observers (CDO) offered valuable feedback for improving the current drafts. CEC encouraged participants to send additional written comments to the drafts by Monday, March 27.
