U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick will travel to the Republics of Finland and Estonia from October 18 to 21, 2020.

From October 18 to 19, 2020, Deputy Administrator Glick will travel to Helsinki to meet with Finland's Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Olavi Haavisto, Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari, other high-level officials in the Government of Finland, and the U.S. Ambassador to Finland, the Honorable Robert Frank Pence. They will discuss cooperation on fifth-generation (5G) broadband Internet technology in emerging markets and support for the adoption in emerging economies of open, interoperable, reliable, inclusive, and secure digital ecosystems. She also will participate in a private industry roundtable with high-level representatives from the telecommunications sector and Business Finland to emphasize USAID's Private-Sector Engagement Policy and Digital Strategy.

On October 20 and 21, 2020, Deputy Administrator Glick will travel to the Republic of Estonia to meet with Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu and several Estonian private-sector technology companies to discuss U.S.- Estonia relations, opportunities for increased development cooperation in third countries, countering malign Kremlin influence, and USAID's efforts to advance European and Eurasian countries along their Journeys to Self-Reliance.  She also will engage with cybersecurity experts to discuss 5G and Estonia's national Cybersecurity Strategy.

On October 22 - 26, Deputy Administrator Glick will travel to Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates to participate in meetings to discuss the importance of ensuring that fifth-generation (5G) broadband Internet technology in the region is open and secure. She will also encourage humanitarian assistance partnerships in the region, and sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of the UAE furthering bilateral development cooperation. The MOU will set the stage for work on select joint development activities such as cultural preservation, food security, and energy in the next year.
