Moruese Village is in Turkwel Ward in Kenya's Turkana County. The area is prone to drought - a nearly constant threat to the livelihoods, and even the lives, of residents here. After weathering many cycles of drought, in 2011, families living here abandoned the area altogether after a prolonged drought ravaged livestock and crops. In 2015, through its Partnership for Resilience and Economic Growth (PREG), USAID supported the construction of a canal lined with concrete to provide water from the Turkwel River.
