Niamey, Niger, 30 November – Today, the United States provided $50,000 to assist communities impacted by the flooding in the capital, Niamey. This award, given to World Vision Niger from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), will help 481 households affected by the flooding rebuild their lives by providing relief supplies including blankets, jerry cans and soap, as well as helping to prevent the spread of disease through water, sanitation and hygiene trainings.
“Floods and other natural disasters can be devastating to communities. This award will help more than 3,000 Nigeriens get back on their feet following the floods in Niamey,” said Sureka Khandagle, Senior Regional Advisor for USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance.
USAID provides life-saving humanitarian assistance to vulnerable households and communities in Niger and across the Sahel. USAID also works in collaboration with multiple regional and international partners, as well as the Government of Niger to reduce chronic vulnerability by increasing economic well-being, strengthening institutions and governance, and improving health and nutrition of communities in the Sahel.
