The Afghan Energy Information Center (AEIC) was created under the USAID-funded Afghanistan Energy Assistance project in 2005. Since its inception, the mission of the AEIC is to be the central repository and distributor of the most accurate, reliable, and unbiased energy data, information, and analysis in Afghanistan. The mission supports the reconstruction, operation, and development of Afghanistan’s energy infrastructure. The AEIC has grown and developed under several USAID projects. Under the current AEIC project, the objective is to support the AEIC’s transition to Afghan leadership at the Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW). To achieve this objective, USAID is providing expertise to expand the AEIC’s capability and the additional technical assistance required to simultaneously maintain the AEIC’s operations, mentor, and develop the AEIC’s staff, and successfully transition the AEIC into an autonomous, independent component of MEW.
