Though faced at home with one of the most significant global health crises in history, the United States has continued to act boldly and demonstrated clear, decisive leadership to support health systems, provide humanitarian assistance, and improve economic security and stabilization efforts in Senegal.

During the week of December 7, 2020, the U.S. Agency for International Development  (USAID) in Senegal will disseminate a series of videos on social media under the global campaign #AmericaActs to highlight the development agency’s contributions to the overall USG response.

In Senegal, the several federal agencies operating in the country have, under the leadership of Ambassador Tulinabo Mushingi, provided quality, transparent, and meaningful assistance to support Senegal during the COVID-19 pandemic. The America Acts - COVID-19 Response Video Series is a collection of videos highlighting USAID support to Senegal and needed work with local communities to slow the spread of the virus.

To maintain development gains while addressing the pandemic, USAID, in close coordination with its implementing partners and government counterparts, has provided timely and consistent support by providing pandemic response funds to the health sector and redirecting development funds in the education, health, economic, and democracy domains. Since the outbreak, USAID has provided an additional 5.4 ($9.6 million) in new and redirected financing for the health sector to  respond to the pandemic.

The America Acts - COVID-19 Response Video Series demonstrates USAID’s commitment to Senegalese partners through adaptation and assistance that saves lives, reduces poverty, and strengthens local governance and resilience. They also serve to inform and educate about efforts to protect the health, safety, and well-being of Senegalese people in times of crisis.

The United States has been the world’s largest contributor to global health security and humanitarian assistance, putting countries like Senegal in a better position to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. During our 60 year relationship with Senegal, the United States has invested more than $2.8 billion (1.6 trillion FCFA), including nearly $880 million (500 billion FCFA) in health assistance. Our commitment to maintaining our bonds is stronger than ever.
