Dodoma, Tanzania - July 17^th, 2018 - The United States Government handed over a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle to the Government of Tanzania at Mkapa House car park in Dodoma on July 17, 2018, through the Community Health and Social Welfare System Strengthening Program (CHSSP) to improve access to remote areas and enhance monitoring of community-based HIV/AIDs, and orphans and vulnerable children programs.

The CHSSP is funded through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and led by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The CHSSP handed over the vehicle to the President’s Office – Regional Administrator and Local Government (PO-RALG), represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Zainab Chaula and the Associate Director, Rasheed Maftah.

CHSSP works closely with PO-RALG through the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, to strengthen the health and social welfare structures and systems through the policy environment, community health and social welfare workforce, and coordination and linkages between health and social welfare services. CHSSP is implemented by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. and its partner World Education, Inc./Bantwana. The program works with the Government of Tanzania, in collaboration with PACT and MEASURE Evaluation, to serve priority populations with special emphasis on most vulnerable children, adolescent girls and young women and people living with HIV and their families.

About the Community Health and Social Welfare Systems Strengthening Program (CHSSP)

CHSSP supports PO-RALG and the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children to train community volunteers (community case workers, lead community case workers, and supervisors) who work at village level to identify most vulnerable children and help them access protection, welfare, and health services, including HIV testing, antiretroviral initiation, and adherence support.
