On August 09, USAID returned over 12.7 hectares of remediated land at the Danang International Airport to Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense. This land will be developed as part of the airport’s expansion. Launched in August 2012, the Environmental Remediation of Dioxin Contamination at Danang Airport Project has successfully treated over 94,000 cubic meters of contaminated soil and sediment and is expected to fully complete in early 2018 when all potential health risks associated from dioxin exposure will be eliminated from the site. So What? This event marks an important milestone in the bilateral relationship between the governments of the United States and Vietnam and will result in a cleaner, safer environment for the people of Danang.
