USAID is supporting Vietnam to systematically provide disability rehabilitation and direct services to persons with disabilities. In June 2017, USAID issued follow-on awards, committing an additional $4.8 million to two local implementing partners - the Sustainable Health Development Center (VietHealth) and Disability Research and Capacity Development (DRD). USAID’s partners will provide services to young children with disabilities and support advocacy for disabilities rights in Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc and Binh Dinh provinces. USAID’s additional support will allow approximately 1,900 children to access early detection and intervention services. Another 1,500 persons with disabilities will be trained on domestic and international laws protecting persons with disabilities. So what: Support to improve the quality of services delivered to persons with disabilities helps stabilize communities and strengthen the U.S. - Vietnam strategic partnership.
