Vietnam is preparing a national plan for the first-ever centralized procurement of ARVs by the Social Health Insurance (SHI) Fund in 2018. This is an important milestone in the transition of HIV programming to the Vietnamese government. To assist provinces in forecasting ARV needs, USAID’s Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management project worked with the Vietnam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control to develop train-the-trainer modules and materials to estimate ARV needs. Regional training has been conducted in Da Nang for central provinces and Ho Chi Minh City for southern provinces. It was attended by pharmaceutical staff from provincial health departments responsible for ARV quantification, planning and supply management. Participants will apply skills gained from the training to guide treatment facilities in their provinces in quantifying ARV demand. Training in Hai Phong for the northern provinces is scheduled for the first week of June.
