With assistance from the USAID Challenge TB Project, Vietnam's Ministry of Health National TB Program (NTP) trained 44 TB and HIV program staff in Bac Giang Province on tuberculosis infection control (TBIC). During the three-day training on May 10-12, participants received technical training on TB infection; TB infectious risks for health workers; TBIC measures – including administrative and environmental controls and respiratory protection; TBIC procedures for data collection; and introduction of a facility assessment checklist to help assess the TBIC situation in health facilities providing TB and HIV services. This training, which is the first step in a TBIC improvement program for Bac Giang province, will result in the development and implementation of TBIC plans for participating health facilities in collaboration with the NTP and USAID Challenge TB.
