Last week, USAID’s Low Emission Energy Program led a workshop focused on how to reduce their energy usage and save money. It was attended by representatives from Vietnam’s energy intensive industries including steel, cement, textiles, building materials and food processing. Together, these sectors consume nearly 50% of the national energy production and their demand for new energy is growing by roughly 10 percent annually.  The aim of the workshop was to help large industrial energy consumers understand and adopt advanced energy management approaches as defined in Vietnam’s National Energy Management Standard. This document helps organizations to improve energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption. So What? As USAID works with Vietnam to achieve climate smart development, implementing an energy management standard can help industrial operators accurately track energy usage and reduce energy consumption by 12 percent, saving money and protecting the environment.
