Kabul, Afghanistan – The United States government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), donated 100 state-of-the-art ventilators to assist Afghanistan in its fight against COVID-19. The ventilators will be distributed to hospitals in the provinces most affected by COVID-19. This donation delivers on President Donald Trump’s generous offer of these life-saving and critically needed supplies and supports Afghanistan’s urgent response to the pandemic.

USAID Helps Afghan Female Entrepreneurs Entering the Market

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) supported 15 young entrepreneurs who graduated from a 4-month long training program provided by the Founder Institute, one of the world’s premier startup business accelerators. With local chapters or representations across over 180 cities including Kabul, the Founder Institute provides startups with the critical support network and structured processes needed to build an enduring company.

USAID Launches Young Innovators in Agriculture Competition

All around the world, farmers lose money because of produce lost during harvest season, which also results in less food on the market. At the same time, as youth increasingly move to cities, fewer youth are interested and involved in the agricultural sector. In Afghanistan, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) supports the participation of young men and women, especially agriculture students, to become involved in the agricultural sector and to harness the ingenuity that youth bring to addressing the problems facing the agricultural sector and constraints for its growth in Afghanistan.

U.S. Embassy Hosts ‘Youth and Peace’ Roundtable for 120 Young Afghan Leaders

The Charge d’Affairs of the U.S. Embassy Karen Decker hosted more than 120 Afghan youth leaders for an open forum to discuss the priorities of youth in the peace process. Young leaders from government, civil society, private sector, and universities attended the day-long dialogue convened by USAID. Participants took part in roundtable discussions with peers focused on leveraging opportunities to participate in the national dialogue on peace and ways to involve youth from Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.

USAID and the Afghan Women’s Career Development Center Are Helping Women Find Jobs

Afghanistan’s Civil Service Institute’s (ACSI) Women’s Career Development Center has the equipment and information system it needs to help women who are seeking employment. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) provided computers, small office equipment and a management information system to the center so that it is fully functional and able to continue supporting job applicants on its own and without donor support.

Afghan Government and USAID Recognize Women Interns in Kandahar

USAID’s internship program equips women with the knowledge and skills to qualify for jobs with the Afghan civil service.

Celebrating 17 Years of Turning Minefields into Vineyards

Representatives from the U.S. government, the Afghan government, and the international community commemorated Landmine Awareness Day. Deputy Minister Mohammed Qaseem Haidari and Heidi Kuhn, the CEO of Roots of Peace, planted a tree to symbolize the turning of mined agricultural land into land that is now producing high value crops. The tree will represent the shared hope of the Afghan and American people, as well as the international community for the removal of all explosive remnants of war from the fertile soils of Afghanistan and turning these lands back into the agricultural lands that will help create a peaceful and profitable future for Afghanistan.

USAID Hosts a Women’s Empowerment Event

Senior Afghan government officials, leaders in the private sector, and civil society representatives attended the event, which highlighted the achievements of the WLD graduates and strengthened their support network as future leaders in Afghanistan.

The three-day event (March 21-23) coincided with this year’s observance of Nowruz.
