Speeches Shim
USAID works to end extreme global poverty and enable resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential. Our climate-and-development know-how and programs help countries achieve self-reliance while pursuing clean economic growth and resilient development and strengthening U.S. security and trade.
Countries around the world are feeling the effects of greater climate variability and change, from more intense heat waves, droughts, floods and storms to slower-moving changes like ocean acidification.
USAID is sharing world-class knowledge, data and tools to help countries predict, prepare for and adapt to change. USAID also helps countries lay the foundations for sustainable growth powered by clean, reliable energy and healthy landscapes.
Our Programs
USAID plays a key role in the climate-and-development arena. Reaching about 50 countries with weather, climate and sustainable landscapes knowledge, data and tools, USAID helps countries act on their climate and development priorities.
Sustainable Landscapes support reaches more than two dozen countries from Bangladesh to Zambia.
SERVIR, a joint program with NASA, reaches more than 50 countries with information provided by Earth observing satellites and geospatial technologies to help manage climate risks and land use.
Climate Integration support reaches across USAID to ensure food security, infrastructure, disaster preparedness and other programs can access climate knowledge, data, tools and good practice.
Our Partners
U.S. State Department partners with USAID to support knowledge sharing about resilience and low emission development across countries, as State leads the United States in global climate talks.
U.S. Space Agency NASA partners with USAID in the SERVIR program, which helps countries access and use satellite data to predict and prepare for climate risks.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency supports USAID in helping countries set up programs to measure and curb climate pollution.
U.S. Weather Service (NOAA) works with USAID to help countries access and use world-class weather and climate information and technology to predict and prepare for changing risks.
