The Scaling Up Renewable Energy Activity (SURE) works with the Government of Colombia (GOC) to diversify energy generation. SURE helps create competitive energy markets and reduce energy costs by developing transparent power procurement policies. SURE runs from April 2018 – December 2021.
SilvaCarbon strengthens Colombian actors’ capacities, like the Ministry of Environment and Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM), to monitor land use changes. It does this through training, research, study tours and technical assistance to create forested land and forest carbon capture inventories. SilvaCarbon’s Colombian work runs from 2011-2021.
The Paramos and Forests Activity helps the Government of Colombia (GOC) meet its landscape-based climate change mitigation goals and strengthens local economic development. This activity is implemented in 16 municipalities and runs from March 2018-March 2025.
The US Nation Renewable Energy Laboratories Partnership (NREL) with USAID advances renewable energy systems in Colombia. NREL provides policy, planning, modelling and deployment support to national energy entities within the Government of Colombia (GOC) to address renewable energy challenges in the country. NREL’s Colombia runs from January 2018-June 2022.
The International Criminal Police Organization Partnership (INTERPOL) with USAID helps Colombian law enforcement agencies address transnational wildlife and forestry crimes. INTERPOL helps these law enforcement agencies understand and dismantle environmental crime systems, in addition to seizing illegal wildlife and forestry goods. INTERPOL’s Colombian work runs from April 2018- September 2020.
