Engendering Utilities Partner Profile
Energo-Pro serves 85 percent of the Georgian market and more than one million customers. Of its 6,000 employees, only 13 percent are women. USAID is proud to work with Energo-Pro in their commitment to improve gender equality in the energy sector as part of their path to long-term success.
Since 1995, Georgia has been significantly improving and transforming its energy sector. The unbundling of generation, transmission, and distribution has contributed to the delivery of continuous electricity supply to nearly 100 percent of the country.
However, transformation of the energy sector from a gender equity perspective has been slower. While women in Georgia benefit from higher than average labor force participation rates—an estimated 58 percent, according to the International Labour Organization—women are not well represented in Georgia’s energy sector.
USAID is partnering with Energo-Pro through the Engendering Utilities program to assist in the development of their tailored action plan to incorporate gender equality into their business practices. Energo-Pro’s HR specialists also took part in Engendering Utilities’ customized Gender Equity Executive Leadership Program, in partnership with Georgetown University. The program’s capstone project required participants to address methods to integrate gender equity into the HR employee lifecycle and utilize advanced change management approaches to maximize their company’s cultural evolution. This partnership has resulted in significant and substantial progress toward a gender-equitable future for the company.
