The recently updated Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Report (EMMR) Factsheet and the Disease X Initiative (DXI) Case Study documents are now available online. The DXI Case Study Templates illustrate the stages of the required Reg. 216 documentation using a hypothetical Bureau of Global Health (GH) program designed to combat an infectious disease. The Case Study and Factsheet updates include revised materials to reflect the GH’s transition to the use of USAID Global Templates for the Reg. 216 process. These resources are particularly helpful to Implementing Partners (IPs) in advance of the busy EMMR fall season.
Updates to the DXI Case Study Templates reflect:
- Implementation of the DXI Case Study into the Global Templates using a mechanism-focused Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plan (EMMP), as well as a country-focused Environmental Screening Form (ESF), EMMP, and EMMR;
- An example of an activity with healthcare waste treatment and/or disposal elements; and
- How to incorporate activity categories into the mitigation and monitoring tables.
The EMMR Factsheet takes a deeper look into key EMMR elements and provides step-by-step instructions on how to prepare an effective EMMR. Key objectives of the EMMR Factsheet include ensuring learners are able to:
- Explain the roles of IPs, AORs/CORs, and the GH BEO in developing and reviewing EMMRs;
- Understand which details to focus on when preparing an effective EMMR;
- Apply DXI Case Study examples to the USAID Global Template; and
- Identify who to contact if they have questions about EMMRs.
The updated DXI Case Study Templates have been integrated into the GH Environmental Management Portal “Disease X: Documenting the IEE Process” and the Environmental Management Process Training Course. The EMMR Factsheet is located on the USAID Environmental Procedures Hub under the Mitigation, Monitoring & Reporting page and the GH Environmental Management Portal Training Resources page. IPs requiring access to the GH Environmental Management Portal should send a request to GHComplianceSupport@usaid.gov.
