The Bureau for Global Health (GH) environmental program is expanding the search for waste treatment technologies. GH has been gathering information on global incinerator locations to develop a resource for USAID projects that are managing healthcare waste (HCW). Initially, the project focused on the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region. It was then expanded to incorporate other geographic regions, such as Sub-Saharan Africa. Now, the project is expanding beyond incinerators to include the locations of other types of waste treatment technologies. Examples include:
The information collected is intended to assist USAID and Implementing Partners (IPs) to help identify possible waste treatment options globally. Information is verified by online research and direct outreach to owners and/or operators. If you know of the location of any waste treatment options that may be available for managing HCW generated by USAID projects, please take a minute to fill out the Waste Treatment Locator Form (link is external). Feel free to share this form with any relevant stakeholders. For questions or concerns, please contact GHComplianceSupport@usaid.gov
