USAID’s health systems strengthening (HSS) efforts are worldwide and focus in particular on countries that receive three or more types of health funds. These countries account for the greatest share of the world's communicable disease burden and family planning needs, where health systems weaknesses create binding constraints on sustainable maternal and child survival. We allocate technical resources to countries graduating from development assistance and those fragile states recovering from severe shocks.
A map illustrates where USAID has health programs. The map highlights USAID's health systems strengthening (HSS) priority countries. HSS priority countries receive three or more types of USAID health funding. USAID's HSS priority countries include: Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burma, Burundi, Cambodia, Cote d'Ivoire, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
