Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan - Today, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Assistant Administrator Javier Piedra met with Kazakhstan International Development Agency (KazAID) Coordinator Rapil Zhoshybaev to strengthen cooperation on development and humanitarian assistance and explore future strategic opportunities for collaboration between the two agencies.

Also in attendance were U.S. Consul General Eric Meyer, USAID Regional Mission Director for Central Asia Christopher Edwards, from the U.S. Mission to Kazakhstan, and Head of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Official Development Assistance Unit Asset Makhmetov, and Member of the Working Group on the Establishment of KazAID Ainur Tuimebekova, from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The United States through its Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced the launch of a new, five-year rule of law program for over $7 million. The overarching goal of this program is to support legal reforms in Kazakhstan by strengthening the independence of the judiciary and creating a favorable legal environment for businesses and civil society organizations.

The United States government through its Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the launch of a new five year, $38.9 million regional energy program, USAID’s Power Central Asia, that will assist the five Central Asian countries—Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan—to meet their national energy priorities, reap economic benefits from cross-border energy trading, and improve energy security through greater regional connectivity.

From September 14 to 19, 2020 over 500 media specialists from countries across Central Asia are participating in the second annual Central Asian Media Festival (MediaCAMP Fest) hosted by the USAID-funded Central Asia Media Program. The online media festival includes trainings, lectures, film screenings, facilitation sessions, discussions, and talk shows.

The United States through its Agency for International Development (USAID) in Kazakhstan, announced the procurement of essential laboratory equipment and supplies to support the Government of Kazakhstan’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. Government delivered supplies valued at $300,000 to support the COVID-19 emergency response in Kazakhstan through USAID’s Local Health System Sustainability Project.
