Today, USAID’s Smart Waters project convened water sector national partners from five Central Asian countries and Afghanistan for the eighth Regional Steering Committee for water coordination in Burabay, Kazakhstan. The meeting facilitated the exchange of information and ideas among participating countries and the sharing of national best practices at a regional level.
Today the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, officially launched three new tuberculosis projects that will provide smart, targeted investments to further reduce the burden of TB on Kazakhstanis. The Vice-Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Lyazat Aktayeva; U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan, William H. Moser; and the WHO Representative in Kazakhstan Oleg Chestnov participated in the ceremony.
The United States and Kazakhstan took an important step to strengthen energy cooperation today by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will help establish a market-based Central Asian Regional Electricity Market (CAREM). United States Deputy Assistant Administrator Javier Piedra and Vice Minister of Energy, Republic of Kazakhstan, Sungat Yessimkhanov signed the MOU at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
