While Kenya scores 81 (out of 100) on the Women, Business and the Law 2020 index and ranks 109 out of the 153 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report 2020 with 0.671, significant inequalities between males and females in education attainment, health outcomes, representation in parliament, and participation in the labor market remain. Over the past decade, legislative and policy reform has established a basis for gender equality across all sectors.
The U.S. Government announced today that it will support the Government of Kenya’s efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 through an additional $500,000 investment. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will implement the response in collaboration with Kenya’s Ministry of Health and County Governments. Today’s announcement brings total U.S. assistance for Kenya’s response to COVID-19 to $1 million.
Wildlife crimes threaten the security, economy and biodiversity of East Africa. Demand for elephant ivory, rhino horn, and pangolin meat and scales continues to rise as poaching methods become increasingly sophisticated. International networks that poach, move and sell illegal wildlife products target wildlife populations across borders, creating a complex problem that transcends national boundaries. East Africa has emerged as a global hub for illegal wildlife trafficking and environmental crime in a black market that generates up to $213 billion each year.
SERVIR is a joint initiative of USAID and NASA. It is working in partnership with leading regional organizations around the globe. SERVIR connects space to village by making geospatial information, including earth observation data from satellites, geographic information systems (GIS) and predictive models useful for evidence based planning and decision making in developing countries.
