In partnership with the UN and local partners, USAID responds to humanitarian and food assistance needs. Together we support the most vulnerable populations and try to build resilience. In Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands, USAID supports food insecure people by providing cash or food in exchange for work. Projects improve community infrastructure, such as local roads or irrigation systems. We also provides specially-formulated therapeutic foods to treat severe acute malnutrition.
For refugee populations and their host communities, USAID provides emergency food assistance and specially-formulated therapeutic foods. A more holistic program approach also includes education on maternal and child health. USAID is also responsive during times of trouble. When natural or man-made disasters strike, we provide humanitarian assistance in the form of emergency health and nutrition services, safe drinking water, hygiene kits, and other relief items.
