USAID participated in the eighth annual ExpoAmazonica trade fair in Pucallpa, Ucayali from August 9-12, showcasing businesses and other organizations from all over Peru’s jungle regions. The Expo-Amazonica is the Amazon’s largest trade fair and the newest sustainable legacy of USAID’s foreign assistance. This year’s event generated aproximately $ 28 million in sales and was attended by 68,000 people.
Since 2011, USAID has sponsored this annual event promoted by the Inter-Regional Amazon Council, providing funds to the organizing Regional Government. In 2018, however, USAID in Peru did not directly fund ExpoAmazonica, but rather provided targeted assistance to bring together the right buyers and sellers, as well as organized industry presentations of coffee and cacao. ExpoAmazonica attracted 32 buyers from United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America, as well as national leading companies and exporters. Each fair promotes collaboration with, and between, regional governments in the Amazon, as well as shines a light on the economic potential for the Amazon region.
