About Serbia
Serbia gained European Union (EU) candidate status in March 2012, began negotiations on accession in January 2014, and has opened several EU accession chapters. The EU integration process will require Serbia to make tough domestic and foreign policy decisions. While Serbia has undertaken significant economic and democratic reforms, challenges remain to make the judiciary more effective, address corruption and build a competitive market economy.
