USAID works to mitigate the impact and spread of Tanzania’s generalized HIV epidemic in partnership with the Government of Tanzania, other U.S. Government agencies, and a wide range of implementing partners through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
On behalf of the United States Government, thank you all for joining us to launch these training efforts, which mark an important step forward in addressing gender-based violence and supporting safe learning environments. Gender-based violence remains a grave reality for countless women and youth in Tanzania and around the world, affecting victims regardless of socioeconomic status or background.
Dodoma, Tanzania - July 17th, 2018 - The United States Government handed over a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle to the Government of Tanzania at Mkapa House car park in Dodoma on July 17, 2018, through the Community Health and Social Welfare System Strengthening Program (CHSSP) to improve access to remote areas and enhance monitoring of community-based HIV/AIDs, and orphans and vulnerable children programs.
On behalf of the U.S. Government, I am delighted to be here. I would first like to say “Hongereni sana” to the Minister and his team for the commitment that has resulted in the National Chimpanzee Conservation Action Plan for Tanzania.
The United States is one of the largest donors to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (the GAVI Alliance), committing more than $1.2 billion over the last 12 years to expand access to vaccines in the world’s poorest countries. Of this, over $250 million has gone to the United Republic of Tanzania since 2000.
