On July 2, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched a hotline for Turkmen producers of fresh fruits and vegetables to facilitate export of their products.
The United States Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed an additional $500,000 to support Turkmenistan’s COVID-19 prevention efforts, bringing the total U.S. Government resources made available to all partners in Turkmenistan to $1.42 million. The additional funding will be provided to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan to improve risk communication and infection prevention and control efforts. These efforts, implemented in cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan, will align with Turkmenistan’s Preparedness Plan for Combatting Acute Infectious Disease and Implementing Rapid Response Measures.
USAID Enriching Youth for Tomorrow trains Turkmen youth to prepare for the modern labor market to then in turn contribute to the local economy and their communities. The project also promotes their active engagement in civil society.
Jemal is a young woman from Ahal, the southern province of Turkmenistan. Born into a large, outgoing family, Jemal struggled to stand out. She was an average student and never found her place in the working world. When an acquaintance told Jemal about an opportunity for a high-paying job in Turkey with a nice family as a nanny, she thought this was her chance to do something special with her life. She jumped at the opportunity to learn and grow in a new, exciting environment.
The U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat, with the cooperation of the Government of Turkmenistan, has assisted dozens of U.S. citizens in Turkmenistan in returning to the United States.
