Interest in physical fitness has surged in recent years in Turkmenistan. This spring, however, the COVID-19 pandemic drastically altered routines as fitness clubs, swimming pools, and sports centers were forced to close their doors. People had to look elsewhere for safe alternatives – and many were unsure where to turn.
Across the globe, many tuberculosis (TB) patients who start treatment, do not complete the course. This has given rise to multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), a form of TB infection caused by bacteria resistant to at least two first-line anti-TB medications, which is very difficult and expensive to treat.
With five nephews, Feruza, CEO and co-founder of the Superkidstm startup knew a thing or two about Batman, Spiderman, and Iron Man. She also knew that learning could be an everyday adventure, and tried to show her nephews that education can be fun and interactive.

“When there are floods, we have to build barriers to keep our land safe,” says Ataev Maksat, a 35-year old farmer from Saryyazy, a village in Mary, Turkmenistan. He is a third generation farmer, growing wheat and cotton on his ancestral land. He also raises livestock and tends to his household vegetable garden -- all of which relies on the Murghab, a transboundary river that flows from Afghanistan to Turkmenistan.
