USAID’s Human Rights Activity (HRA) works with Government of Colombia (GOC) and civil society organizations to promote a culture of human rights and to prevent, and respond to, human rights violations. It does this by monitoring the rapidly shifting regional dynamics impacting vulnerable populations and focusing efforts on those most in need.
USAID is demonstrating that investments are more strategic and sustainable when working with Colombian stakeholders to adapt new technologies and sharpen its focus on property and land use.
The STARR II IDIQ—managed by the E3/Land and Urban Office—is a $650 million, multi-faceted field support mechanism available for field Missions and other USAID Offices and Bureaus to buy in to for activities through July 2025.
The Ser+Maestro (pronounced Ser Más Maestro) activity provides teachers, students, and communities, with educational tools to foster reconciliation and citizenship empowerment in conflict-affected areas. The main focus of Ser+Maestro is on schools as an ideal place to promote the important building blocks of reconciliation, tolerance, and respect for diversity. The activity also provides teacher training, contributes to community leadership and inclusion, and establishes communities respectful of difference.
Implemented by Proantioquia, the activity runs from October 2017 – October 2020, and will work with teachers from 17 municipalities in four departments (Antioquia, Cauca, Córdoba, and Santander).
