According to the “Economics of Resilience to Drought” study, disseminated yesterday by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and National Drought Management Authority, an earlier and more proactive response to drought in Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia could save development partners and governments 30 percent on humanitarian aid spending.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, March 2, 2018: The East African Community (EAC) Secretariat in collaboration with the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), held Regional Learning Event and Investors Forum/Donors Roundtable on Environment and Natural Resources Management under the theme: Building Resilience in East Africa: Bridging the Gaps in Policy & Practice at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
Today the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) East Africa Trade and Investment Hub (the Hub) signed a grant with Generation Program Kenya Limited, a local subsidiary of the McKinsey Social Initiative, to create 2,000 full-time jobs and provide over 100,000 hours in skills development for young people in the apparel industry.
Today, panelists for the East Africa Postharvest Technologies Competition 2017 selected three innovators to split $30,000 in seed capital to scale up and disseminate their technologies to reduce postharvest food losses. Poor postharvest practices currently result in the loss of 60 percent of all food that is produced in Africa.
Today in Nairobi, U.S. Ambassador Robert F. Godec helped launch East Africa’s agribusiness reality TV show “Don’t Lose the Plot,” which was supported by the U.S. Government’s Feed the Future initiative and the United States Agency of International Development (USAID).
