Jene Thomas, USAID/Peru Mission Director accompanied with his technical team, made a trip to Puerto Maldonado in Madre de Dios to visit and see the progress in the implementation of USAID activities in the region.
Mr. Thomas had the opportunity to know how USAID is providing support to the Government of Peru agencies for combating human trafficking through our partner Capital Humano y Social Alternativo (CHS).
He also visited the mining concession Paolita II, where his owner, Pedro Infante, allows that our partner, the Centro de Innovación Científica Amazónica (CINCIA) have their forest recovery experimental plots. Later, at the Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana (IIAP) premises, Mr. Thomas visited CINCIA drones and mercury laboratory and discusses how their on-going research is addressing deforestation and other outstanding gold mining issues such as mercury contamination.
