The VIII Salon del Cacao & Chocolate 2017 was held in Lima from July 6th to 9th. The salon is a celebration where it is shown the diversity of Peruvian cacaos (Peru is the country with the greater variety of this bean in the world) and the best chocolates made with Peruvian cacao, many of them recognized worldwide.
There were more than 150 exhibition stands with different brands and Peruvian cacao cooperatives, demonstration classes prepared by master bakers, and chocolate tasting. International chocolatiers came interested in buying Peruvian cacao and there were more than 20,000 visitors.
In the last 16 years the United States Government, through the Agency of the United States for International Development, USAID, and together with the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs, DEVIDA, is supporting cacao farmers especially in Huanuco, San Martin and Ucayali regions, providing them access to a better quality of life.
