The USAID Agribusiness Development activity supports private sector-led growth in Uzbekistan’s agriculture sector by introducing new value-added technologies and management practices across the entire value chain for targeted agricultural commodities.

Agricultural Value Chains Activity Fact Sheet
The Agricultural Value Chain activity’s main goal is to increase agricultural productivity and prosperity in Uzbekistan. The activity works throughout the entire value chain of Uzbekistan’s horticultural sector to create employment, increase fruit and vegetable yield, quality, and exports, and strengthen relationships between educational institutions and the private sector.
Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER)
The goal of PEER in Central Asia is to improve domestic and regional water management for better cross-border cooperation and less water waste. PEER awards have a strong potential for developmental impact and are tailored to investigate sustainable transboundary water management covering non-conventional agricultural crop production, climate and environmental protection, and improving water and energy use efficiencies at the farm and river-basin levels.

The USAID Legal Reform Program supports Uzbekistan’s efforts to ensure further development of rule of law principles, build the capacity of legal professionals and training institutions, enhance citizens’ access to justice, improve the legal operating environment for civil society, promote gender equality, and create a healthier investment climate. USAID partners with the Ministry of Justice, Chamber of Advocates, Academy of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Uzbekistan’s Higher Education Institutions, and key actors in civil society to meet these objectives.

Rule of Law Partnership In Uzbekistan
The USAID-funded Rule of Law Partnership in Uzbekistan Project improves the public’s access to and trust in the country’s judicial system, focusing mainly on criminal, economic, administrative and civil courts. The project works closely with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the High Judicial Council and other key stakeholders in the national judiciary and justice sectors. The project’s main achievement has been to transform Uzbekistan’s courts from being tools of government administration, to a means for ensuring citizen’s rights are respected. The project has been successful to date in bridging justice gaps and strengthening rule of law in Uzbekistan.

U.S. Assistance to Uzbekistan for the COVID-19 Crisis
The United States Government has strongly supported the Government of Uzbekistan’s efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing life-saving equipment, laboratory and medical supplies, and technical assistance.
USAID International Food Relief Partnership in Uzbekistan
The USAID International Food Relief Partnership (IFRP) program in the Republic of Uzbekistan is a sub-program of the Title II U.S. food assistance program, USAID Food for Peace, that supports the production, transportation, delivery and distribution of shelf-stable, fortified and prepackaged foods to reduce hunger and malnutrition, and ensure that all individuals have adequate, safe and nutritious food to support a healthy and productive life.

In recent years, the Government of Uzbekistan has demonstrated a significant commitment to developing the pharmaceutical industry and achieving international standards for medicines quality assurance systems. This commitment was reflected in a number of presidential decrees and resolutions, including two from 2019 – the Presidential Decree (UP-5707) on further measures for the accelerated development of the pharmaceutical industry in the Republic of Uzbekistan (2019-2021) and the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (PP-4554) on additional measures for the strengthening of reforms in the pharmaceutical industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Early Grade Reading Assessment and Early Grade Math Assessment National Survey in Uzbekistan
The Republic of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Public Education (MPE) is embarking on a complete reform of the education sector. The MPE, which has responsibility for primary and general secondary education, has requested the assistance of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to support and advise those reform efforts. To support the MPE’s efforts toward a more effective and transparent basic education system, USAID is providing a national reading and mathematics survey using the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) and Early Grade Math Assessment (EGMA).

Uzbekistan is working to create an education system that can produce graduates with the critical thinking, problem solving, and practical skills that will enable them to succeed. The reform agenda is intended to transform the instructional practices of the teaching workforce, moving away from a focus on rote and fact learning toward enhancing students’ ability to apply knowledge.
