Rakhmanberdi “Roma” Salamatov has been a successful fruit exporter for over 20 years. His business, RedPack LLC, is one of 600 horticulture organizations and businesses assisted by USAID in Uzbekistan.
The Republic of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Public Education (MPE) is embarking on a complete reform of the education sector. The MPE, which has responsibility for primary and general secondary education, has requested USAID’s assistance to support and advise those reform efforts in creating a more effective and transparent basic education system. USAID is providing national level surveys, the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) and Early Grade Math Assessment (EGMA).
Today, U.S. Ambassador Daniel Rosenblum handed over essential relief supplies to the non-governmental charity foundation Sog’lom Avlod Uchun as part of the United States government’s assistance to Uzbekistan in response to the partial collapse of the Sardoba Reservoir Dam. This humanitarian assistance will reach 2,000 beneficiary families affected by the disaster.
As part of the comprehensive response against the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States government announced an additional $3 million in funding through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to Uzbekistan. This brings the total direct U.S. Government contribution to support Uzbekistan’s efforts to combat COVID-19 to $5.92 million, of which USAID has provided approximately $3.8 million. USAID will use these additional funds to continue to strengthen the capacity of laboratories and health workers to fight and contain the spread of COVID-19.
The USAID Legal Reform Program supports Uzbekistan’s efforts to ensure further development of rule of law principles, build the capacity of legal professionals and training institutions, enhance citizens’ access to justice, improve the legal operating environment for civil society, promote gender equality, and create a healthier investment climate. USAID partners with the Ministry of Justice, Chamber of Advocates, Academy of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Uzbekistan’s Higher Education Institutions, and key actors in civil society to meet these objectives.
